SonoCiné is an investigational method of whole breast ultrasound undergoing a multi-center trial to determine if breast screening by ultrasound can discover breast cancers not found by Screening Mammography or physical examination.

SonoCiné uses ultrasound energy, while Mammography uses x-ray energy. Mammography looks through the entire thickness of each breast. This may result in small cancers being obscured by the tissues above or below it. SonoCiné collects 2000 to 4500 ultrasound images of breast tissue and links them together as a cine loop that visualizes both breasts completely. Each imaged area is seen without the obscuring effects of the adjacent tissue.
